That’s What Friends Are For/Madeline Bell

クイーカが利いている、ブラジルテイスト満載の一曲。
ピアノのハネ具合といい、
セッション・シンガーのMadeline Bellらしい、
ヴォーカルの安定感とグルーヴ感といい、
初夏のこの時期にピッタリ。
（我が家では『カルディ』と呼ばれたことも。センスありませんがw）

初めて聴いたのはかれこれ20年近く前ですが、
今年2019年になって、改めて聴き直して
お気に入りになりました。
年齢を重ねることで味覚のように、耳が変わることもあるんですね。

下記の一節が印象的な、友情を歌った歌詞です。
“Isn’t that what a friend is for,
That’s what friends are for”
「友達が何のためにあるのかではない
友だちとはそういうもの」

なお、That’s What Friends Are Forという同名曲は
Dionne Warwick & Friendsのグラミー受賞曲
（邦題：愛のハーモニー）が
Burt Bacharach夫婦作ということもあり、圧倒的に有名です。
ググってもRod Stewartの原曲か、Dionne Warwick版ばかり見つかりますが、
完全に別曲です。

原盤はかなりレアのようです。
我が家ではフリーソウルのコンピレーション・アルバム、
“Free Soul Wing”
で聴いています。

Artist

Madeline Bell/マデリーン・ベルは
1942年生まれ（2019年現在もご存命らしい）の
アメリカ出身の主にセッション・シンガー。
活動は主にヨーロッパ（特にUK）で、
ストーンズのバッキング・ヴォーカルも吹き込んだことがあるそう。

正直、この曲しか知らないのですが、
セッション・シンガーらしい、
懐の深さが特徴と思います。
ハネ感あるリズムにもややトリッキーな歌詞の載せ方も
余裕で対応する安定感を感じます。
